Corneal Transplants

DMEK: This is the most advanced technique in endothelial transplantation. When we perform this technique we only replace the two most inner layers of the cornea, having the fastest healing and best final visual acuity.

DSAEK: This is an endothelial transplantation technique developed previously to DMEK. Nowadays we only perform this technique when DMEK is not an option.

DALK: With this technique we replace 90% of the cornea, reducing surgical and the rejection risks. DALK is an indication in partial thickness corneal scars.

PKP: We replace full thickness of the cornea, only performing it in cases where a lamellar surgery is not indicated.

Artificial Corneas: this is the last resource when other corneal surgeries are not an option anymore.

Keratoconus

This condition is characterized by a progressive corneal thinning with consecutive change in it's shape. As a consequence the visual acuity and quality is diminished. It usually manifests with a progressive increase in Astigmatism and Myopia.

Diagnosis and Treatment.

  • Corneal Tomography .

  • Cross Linking: This is the only treatment that has shown to be effective halting the progression of the condition.

  • Intra corneal rings.

  • Corneal Transplants.

Cross Linking

Refractive Surgery

The aim of this surgery is to provide freedom from wearing glasses and contact lenses to patients that are good candidates.

What is LASIK?

LASIK is one of the different surgical techniques we use to correct refractive errors. This consists in the creation of a corneal flap that we use as a cup, and perform the laser treatment under it.

What is PRK?

PRK is an other refractive surgery technique. This is also called surface surgery because we don't create a flap, just performing laser treatment over the corneal surface.

Cataract Surgery

What is a Cataract?

How is the Cataract surgery performed?

Intra Corneal Segments

These rings or segments are mainly used in patients with keratoconus.

Punctal plugs

This is used to occlude the lacrimal drainage system. This is part of the treatment for dry eye.

Supplementary IOL's

These intra ocular lenses are used to provide multi focal vision or to correct visual defects from previous cataract surgeries without exchanging the lens.
