DMEK (Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty)
This is the most advanced technique in endothelial transplants.
We perform this surgery in endothelial conditions like Fuchs corneal dystrophy or other endothelial disfunctions.
When the corneal endothelium fails, the cornea builds up liquid and the vision progressively decreases.
This technique replaces the predecesor DSAEK. With this newer technique we provide a perfect anatomical restitution of the sick tissue.
Other advantages of DMEK over DSAEK are: Less percentage of rejection (1% DMEK, up to 14% DSAEK), DMEK achieves better visual outcomes.
